I used to clear bars for a living — as a national-level high jumper. Now I clear a different kind: building brands, campaigns, and public-sector communications that land with people.

The Story

From the high-jump pit
to brand strategy

Hi, I’m Kamal Asnani — a communications and digital marketing professional whose career started on a very different kind of field.

I was a national-level high jumper. For years, my life revolved around competition, discipline, and chasing personal bests. Then, in late 2019, a career-ending ankle injury changed everything.

“What began as a setback became a turning point — it pushed me to find a new way to stay connected to the world I loved, and I found it in strategy and storytelling.”

Sports Management gave me the foundations: event planning, partnerships, brand strategy. Marketing instantly caught my attention — I realized I could use creativity and data to tell stories that move people, the same way sports do.

Since moving to Toronto, I’ve completed two postgraduate programs at Seneca Polytechnic — Sports Entertainment & Event Marketing, and Digital & Social Media Marketing (with High Honors). Along the way I’ve built projects for brands like McDonald’s, MINISO, Aritzia, and CAMH, delivered campaigns for Toronto businesses and festivals, and contributed to large-scale sporting events such as the National Games of India.

Today I work in public-sector communications with the Ontario Public Service — managing issues, ministerial correspondence, and digital reporting — while continuing to build brands on the side. Everything I do blends the athlete’s mindset with the strategist’s toolkit: preparation, precision, and the discipline to keep raising the bar.
